ESMIL XJD-1500 Roller Press: Efficient Dewatering of Highly Abrasive Sludge at a Canadian Microelectronics Plant

The Esmil’ production team has completed the manufacture of an XJD-1500 roller press, which will be delivered to a Canadian company in the microelectronics sector. The unit will be used for dewatering sludge generated in the treatment of industrial wastewater.

Wastewater from microelectronics processes typically contains a high concentration of abrasive particles, creating demanding operating conditions. To address this challenge, the project required equipment with enhanced resistance and long-term durability. The XJD series roller press, engineered specifically for handling complex and abrasive sludge, proved to be the optimal choice.

The unit has been equipped with a range of design features that effectively minimise the risk of blockages and reduce wear on key working components, ensuring stable operation even under demanding conditions. The most important of these include:

  • Use of wear resistant resin and stainless steel discs, arranged alternately in two rows – upper and lower.
  • A self-cleaning disc design, eliminating the need for wash water and downtime for manual cleaning.
  • Optimised spacing between the upper and lower rows of rollers, supporting uninterrupted operation even under heavy load.
  • An enlarged discharge outlet, reducing the risk of blockages.
  • Low rotational speed of the rollers (up to 1.5 rpm), reducing mechanical wear of key components.

This case demonstrates the increasing role of the JD series roller press in delivering reliable and effective dewatering of challenging industrial sludge.

Units from this series are applied across many sectors, including:

  • Water treatment
  • Biogas plants
  • Automotive industry
  • Plastics recycling
  • Waste management
