City of Donna WWTP Achieves Significant Operational Improvements with Esmil’s MDQ-404 Multi-disk Screw Press

Esmil MDQ-404 Multi-Disk Screw Press City of Donna

The City of Donna Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Donna, Texas, has recently enhanced its sludge dewatering process by implementing Esmil’s MDQ-404 Multi-Disk Screw Press. This strategic upgrade, developed and launched by our team in Akron, Ohio, has resulted in substantial improvements in operational efficiency and cost savings, solidifying our position as a leading American manufacturer.

Customer Overview

The City of Donna WWTP is dedicated to treating wastewater and managing sludge for its local community. The plant was previously using traditional dewatering boxes for Waste Activated Sludge (WAS). However, the existing system proved inefficient, yielding low dry solids content and generating excessive sludge volumes, which necessitated frequent and costly offsite hauling.

Challenges

The inefficiency of the dewatering boxes significantly increased operational costs due to the large volume of sludge that had to be transported. Additionally, the labor-intensive nature of the process added further burdens to the facility’s operations. To address these challenges, the City of Donna WWTP sought a more effective and cost-efficient dewatering solution.

Solution

Esmil Group provided a trailer-based MDQ-404 Multi-Disk Screw Press as a turn-key dewatering system, specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of the City of Donna WWTP. This equipment, produced at our Akron plant, was selected for its proven capability to efficiently handle WAS sludge and produce a dewatered cake with higher dry solids content. Notably, this installation is one of several successful projects our Akron-based team has completed in recent years.

Performance Results

The MDQ-404 Multi-Disk Screw Press has delivered outstanding results. Operating at a capacity of 70 gallons per minute (gpm), the system processes sludge with an initial dry solids content of 2.5%, producing a final cake with 18% dry solids. This significant improvement has reduced the volume of sludge, allowing the facility to cut its dewatering operations from five days a week to just two 8-hour shifts. These enhancements have not only lowered sludge hauling costs but also minimized labor requirements, making the plant’s operations more efficient and sustainable.

Equipment Overview

The MDQ-404CLS trailer-based turn-key system provided to the City of Donna WWTP includes:

  • MDQ-404CLS Multi-Disk Screw Press
  • Sludge Feed Pump
  • Macerator
  • Polymer Feeder Velodyne
  • Cake Screw Conveyor

This comprehensive setup, engineered with the highest standards of American manufacturing and in compliance with ASME codes, has not only improved the plant’s dewatering performance but also simplified its operations. Moreover, the equipment adheres to the Buy American, Build America (BABA) policy, reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality, domestically produced solutions.
