Sludge Thickening Process – Why It Matters

The sludge thickening process increases sludge concentration before further treatment, making downstream sludge handling significantly more efficient. By reducing sludge volume (typically by 5-10 times), thickening helps optimize processes such as anaerobic digestion, ATSO, RSO and mechanical sludge dewatering.

Typical raw sludge contains 0.2–1.2% dry solids (DS). Thickened sludge can reach 5–8% DS and, in some cases, up to 16% DS, depending on sludge characteristics.
